The program is aimed at the so-called “newcomers” to social networks, older people who already have access to the internet via smartphones and tablets, but do not yet have developed the skills to safely and fully use the new communication channels on the internet. This group is particularly vulnerable on social media, as its representatives do not have a built-in knowledge of the abuses of these new channels. At the same time, they are active people who are willing to engage in public debates, but are often left out of the focus of national inclusion policies. Older people, especially during the pandemic, were exposed to serious social isolation, which online communication can largely compensate for. That is why they need to feel safe and confident, to participate online in the social life of the community.

The program aims to develop skills for recognizing and protecting against disinformation, conspiracies, fake profiles and fraud in the online space. The program also aims to develop skills for safe communication through social networks for a more active inclusion of older people in debates on public issues of the day. The program is tailored to the target group, developing basic skills through practical activities and discussions, without unnecessarily burdening older people.

The trainers are journalists – established professionals in the media, including Mirolyuba Benatova, Blagoy Tsitselkov, Nadya Obretenova, Rosen Tsvetkov, Velizara Tsoneva, Maya Dimitrova, Dafina Kandova and Vesselina Dotkova.
