Summary:
Improving the conditions for providing electronic services through citizens’ libraries, for their inclusion and contribution to the development of local communities, for the sustainability of the network of public libraries and for expanding its scope.

In 2014, with the aim of more effectively supporting public libraries, GLBF  implemented the project with the financial support of the National Fund “Culture” of the Ministry of Culture. Its implementation identifies the state of services offered by public libraries after the completion of the Program “Bulgarian Libraries – a place for access to information and communication for everyone”, implemented in Bulgaria for the period 2009-2013 and referred to as the Program for short.

Project objectives:

Creating the capacity of FGBB to conduct studies and carry out policy analyzes in the field of culture and civic participation;
Increasing the skills of target libraries for effective networking in order to improve services for citizens;

 

Activities:

In-depth analysis of the situation in Bulgaria after the implementation of the Program – results, impact, current needs.
Development of a road map for attracting project and donor support for the development and improvement of services provided through public libraries;
Maintaining an up-to-date database of service scope and trends for changes;
Organizing a seminar to discuss the results of the collected information from the country and outline trends for future actions;
Promotion of the activities of the FGBB and the results of the project through the Foundation’s portal and other appropriate forms.

 

Results:

The Global Libraries – Bulgaria Foundation has expanded its capacity to work with local libraries in order to improve the conditions for providing electronic services to citizens, for their inclusion and contribution to the development of local communities, for the sustainability of the network of public libraries and for expansion of its scope. The Foundation identifies institutions and partners in the country and abroad for future cooperation.
