Project name:
Studying Norway’s experience in designing, building and managing libraries for teenagers
Implementation period:
2016 – 2017
The “Global Libraries – Bulgaria” Foundation implemented a project under the direction “Partnership initiatives promoting cooperation with donor countries (Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway), measure B.1 (Measure C)” within the framework of the NGO Support Program of the Financial Mechanism of the European economic space.
We lack special research on the relationship between libraries and teenagers. Over the past three decades, the skills young people need to succeed in the labor market have changed dramatically, and the skills acquired in schools have not kept pace with these changes. Libraries must create the spaces/environments/develop services and opportunities that today’s teenagers need to succeed in school and in life.
The following activities were carried out within the project:
Working visit to Norway by librarian-innovators – study of the library system and visit to several public libraries;
A two-day workshop with leading experts from the Norwegian Library Association, Oslo Central Public Library and University College in two sessions:
1/ Innovative library services – trends and needs of users and
2/ Transformation of library spaces – management, design and solutions.
Development of a model for a library for teenagers adapted and adequate for Bulgaria;
Presentation and dissemination of project results.
