The Media Literacy Coalition (MLC), the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom and the Global Libraries Bulgaria Foundation are organising a national forum dedicated to the development of media literacy in regional communities. The forum will take place on 18 September in Sofia.
The meeting will bring together professionals in the field to explore solutions and partnerships for developing media literacy in Bulgaria. There will be a focus on good practices and the presentation of the annual Digital Stars in Regional Communities award. The event will also highlight the opportunities for funding and support for local organisations interested in media literacy such as regional libraries, chitalishta, and senior and youth clubs.

10.00-10.10: Opening
10.10-10.40: Seniors in focus – the Level Up project and updated training resources on online fraud and AI, as well as how seniors became ambassadors for media literacy. Presentation by representatives of the MLC and project partners from Spain (Maldita) and Czechia (Transitions)
10.40 – 11.20: Discussion – How to work together: challenges and solutions. With participants from the Global Libraries Bulgaria Foundation, the Peoples’ Chitalista Foundation and the Ministry of Culture. Moderated by MLC
11.20 – 11.35: Opportunities for supporting media literacy in the European Union, and where is it on the agenda of the European Commission. Led by the Commission representative in Bulgaria.
11.35-12.15: Break and light lunch
12.15-12.45: Five good practices – short 3-minute presentations from 5 regional organisations with follow-up Q&A
12.45-12.55: Introduction to the upcoming Digital Stars in Regional Communities award and application requirements, including reference to the European Digital Media Observatory guidelines for creating successful media literacy projects.
12.55-13.55: Successful media literacy projects and applications – group task to work on common media literacy projects and applications for the Digital Stars in Regional Communities competition.
13.55-14.20: Presentation of ideas and closing remarks
