Giving Tuesday is a global movement that is growing every year. It began in the United States in 2012, and has been coordinated by the BCause Foundation in Bulgaria since 2018.
Global Libraries Bulgaria Foundation joined the initiative for the first time in 2024 with a campaign that collected over 4,000 books from 300+ donors, which were distributed to over 80 chitalishte libraries in small towns across the country. The partners were BCause, The Central Hali, and SKAPTO.
This year’s campaign aims to provide books to prison inmates in Sliven, Pazardzhik and Sofia.
WHAT TO DONATE:
- Contemporary Bulgarian fiction (poetry and prose)
- Contemporary foreign fiction, translated into Bulgarian
- Classical works in Bulgarian
- Fiction in English
- History
- Applied psychology and personal development
- Dictionaries and phrasebooks: Bulgarian-Turkish / Turkish-Bulgarian, Bulgarian-Russian / Russian-Bulgarian, Bulgarian-Arabic / Arabic-Bulgarian, Bulgarian-Persian / Persian-Bulgarian, Bulgarian-Dutch / Dutch-Bulgarian
- Bulgarian law: on sentencing and detention, the Criminal Code and Administrative Procedure Code
WHO IS PARTICIPATING?
Paysafe employees will be collecting books until 2 December 2025, and the Sofia Reading Room will take donations on 2 December.
HOW TO GET INVOLVED
Choose a new or well-preserved book the fits into one of the categories above and bring it to the Reading Room on 2 December. GLBF will distribute the books to the prison libraries in Sliven, Pazardzhik and Sofia.
