On 18 July 2012, the library of Izgrev 1927 Public Chitalishte in the village of Rogosh commemorated 175 years from the birth of Vasil Levski. The young volunteers and book lovers made posters with the portrait of the Deacon and some of his thoughts thanks to the computer and the photocopying equipment provided under the Glob@l Libraries – Bulgaria Program. We visited the mayor’s office to ask for permission to display the posters. We placed them in the chitalishte, the pharmacy, the pensioner’s club and in shops.

Children continue to be our best helpers even during their summer vacation. Thanks to their support, more than 130 new books were added to the library stock and tens of books were bound and mended. Some children train their peers in working with the computers. The library is an increasingly popular place for those who are willing to contribute and want to be helpful.

Following their successful graduation of the computer literacy training, some elderly users demonstrated willingness to take part in library initiatives as volunteers. Together with them, we visited and entertained the youngest inhabitants of our village with performances based on favorite fairy tales. The equipment provided by the Global Libraries was also helpful – we used it to teach children safety rules in cases of natural disasters.
