The activities of volunteers of Prof. Benyu Tsonev District Library in Lovech focus again on information days that help us see and think. On 31 May 2012, their activities were implemented under the heading “Stop Smoking”. Together with the Bulgarian Youth Red Cross volunteers, they distributed, mainly among smokers, brochures listing the harms of smoking and statistics on the percentage of smokers in Bulgaria, including children smokers. A volunteer dressed like a cigarette was inviting people to tear at least one cigarette and throw it in a special bin and in return they received a cigarette-shaped chewing gum. On 25 July, the European Road Safety Day, the topic “Active Involvement of Youth in Road Safety” united the efforts of the Bulgarian Red Cross, the Regional Public Health Inspectorate, library volunteers and Lovech Today Association with the cooperation of the District Governor’s Office and the Traffic Police Department: in the afternoon, safe driving instructions were distributed among drivers going in and out of the city and the kids in the cars received gifts. The initiatives implemented across the country aim to enhance young people’s awareness and responsibility toward road safety, create conditions for young people’s active involvement in both changing attitudes and organizing specific events targeted at enhancing road safety at the national and regional level.
